This is our Washington DC / New York City Trip!!

7/22/05 - 7/29/05

Andrea's Pictures, Kelly's Pictures, Sarah's Pictures

My girl-friends and I decided to take a trip to NYC and DC.  We had a really great trip!  Here's some of the pictures I took.  Click on the links above to see my friends' pictures.

The first two days of the trip (7/22-23), we passed by some wonderful scenery!  We drove straight to DC, it took us almost 20 hours.

Here's Sarah taking a little nap while Andrea is driving...  we took turns doing both!

One of the guys I work with is named "Markham"... so I took these two pictures for him!!!  We are always joking about where he wanders off to!!!  He SAYS he's down the warehouse... but now we really know where he's at!! LOL!  When I showed him the pictures... he said... "heh yep I was out there on highway 688 ;)"... later he said there was a lake down that road... which explains why he's always talking about going fishing!!

Route 66!!  Jacque told me I had to take pictures of the signs... so here's the two best ones!

We're getting closer!!

We didn't actually stay in Washington DC.... it was too expensive.  We stayed in Tyson's Corner, Virginia.  It was only a 15 minute drive to DC... and about a 5 minute drive to Andrea's Uncle's house!!  He cooks really, really good!!

So... here we are and Jim and Ann's house...

The Washington Monument!  I got tons of pictures of this... I didn't post all of them, I promise!

The Vietnam Memorial

More pictures of us!!  (well... not me... i was taking the pictures!!)

More Washington Monument

The Lincoln Memorial

All of us! YAY! One of the millions of boy scouts that were milling around offered to take our picture.

I kept trying to get a good picture of the American Flag... this is the only one that turned out good... it was too dark outside.

The Korean War Memorial

This was our Hotel... The Tyson's Corner Courtyard Marriott.  Andrea was waiting in line to have her computer put in a security area, so that we didn't have to leave it in the room or in the van.  We just sat in the very comfy couches while we were waiting.

This is Arlington Cemetery... At the top of the hill is the Kennedy Memorial.

Inside the main building there were pictures, models, and a gift store. There was also a big screen TV which showed the tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the guard marching in front of it.

This plaque is just one of many that we saw under trees throughout the cemetery.

The Kennedy Memorial

This is a view of the Lincoln Memorial from the in front of the Kennedy Memorial

This is part of the wall in front of the Kennedy Memorial... There were too many people to get pictures of the rest of it.

Another plaque under a tree.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

The Jefferson Memorial - we came back later that night and saw it up close... this was taken from the road.

Some people playing Cricket!! I just had to take a picture... I've never seen anyone play Cricket in America!!

This is the spiral outside of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.

This is the McDonald's inside the Air and Space Museum.  It was HUGE! (and expensive!! $7.49 for a #1 value meal!! it only costs $4.49 here!!)

The Capitol Building

Washington Memorial!

The National Gallery of Art

Andrea and Sarah were posing for Kelly, what I didn't know was that Andrea was taking a picture of Kelly while Kelly was taking a picture of them!

Daniel in the Lion's Den

a beautiful fountain that you see when you first walk in

Adam and Eve

Another fountain that I thought was cool, this one had a sun roof, which made it much nicer.  There's another picture of all of us together!!  From left to right, Sarah, Andrea, Joanna, Kelly.  I don't know what that thing on the end is, but I thought it was cool looking so I took a picture of it.

The Capitol

The Botanical Gardens (we didn't get to go look around there.

Ducks in the reflecting pool.

Monuments between the Reflecting pool and the Capitol

The Capitol and all of us in front of it.  We didn't bother going any closer, because the building was closed to visitors, you couldn't even go up the stairs.

The National Museum of the American Indian (We didn't get to go there either!!  there just wasn't enough time!!)

Three cool looking buildings that we saw as we were driving past.  The first one looks like a church.

The base of the Washington Monument.

The Federal Reserve

The theater where Lincoln was assassinated.

The Hard Rock Cafe!!

The Jefferson Memorial

The Roosevelt Memorial

Cool Waterfalls

Eleanor Roosevelt

Plaque of the funeral procession

Roosevelt and his dog

Jim and Ann (Andrea's Uncle and Aunt)

Some of the pictures are hard to see, I'm hoping that my friends' pictures turned out better...  But this was really awesome, I can't wait to go back.  I would like more pictures during daylight hours.

Our last morning in DC, Uncle Jim took us all out to eat breakfast at the Silver Diner.  It was one of those cool, old fashioned looking diner's that had the old fashioned juke box and a mini juke box at each of the booths.

Andrea with Uncle Jim

I think that's the Washington National Cathedral in the distance.

Helen Keller's Ashes are buried/stored behind these doors... the only difference between these two pictures is that one is with the flash and one is without.  The one with the flash came out kinda creepy looking!!

We got friendship bracelets in the Cathedral Shop!

They had books from all of the 50 states where you could sign your name and say where you came from and what you liked most about your visit.  We all signed the Louisiana book.  As we were putting the book away, Kelly noticed the prayer on the back of the book.  Kelly and I read the prayer aloud before we put the book away.

The six pictures above were all taken in the Bethlehem Chapel

I lit a candle for my mom.  (The top left candle)

All the state flags were flown along the middle of the main sanctuary.  Here is the Louisiana Flag.  It's a little blurry, but I had to zoom all the way in to be able to see it.

There were little rainbows on the floor... I got a picture of Kelly "catching" the rainbow on her face.

This is the space window.  There is an actual piece of moon rock on this window.

More views of the church from the outside.  What an awesome church it is!

On the way to NYC from Washington DC, we went through Baltimore, Maryland.  I tried to get some pictures of the ships.

almost there!!!

look at the long line to get through the Lincoln Tunnel!

Our first night in NYC, Kelly and I went to the Empire State Building.  Some of the pictures didn't come out so great, but it was an awesome view!!  We didn't get back to the hotel 'til after midnight!

Kelly and I!  These pictures didn't turn out too good, but at least we tried! We were so busy wondering if they would come out, I guess we forgot to smile??? LOL!

The top of the empire state building from the observation deck

A plaque that was up on the observation deck... this was the only view I could get, it was pretty crowded up there!

In the middle of the plaque, is the Empire State Building with King Kong holding onto the top!

These guys got around!  I saw them several times while we were there!

The Battleship Intrepid.  After I took their picture, they all left, so I took a picture of myself!!  LOL!

Kelly pretending to fly one of the planes.

Figurehead for the USS New York.

Original Iwo Jima Statue!

Kelly pretending to be the lookout on deck!!  That deck was really moving!  I didn't go up there, I thought I would get sea sick!!  Look at Kelly with her Binoculars!!!  LOL!

These were the two rides that they had... one was a space simulator and the other was a G-force simulator.

Here we are on "The Beast"... it is speed boat version of the circle line tour of the Statue of Liberty.  I had to take the picture twice to get us all in!  Kelly and I traded places later in the ride because she didn't want to get too wet and I wanted to get wet!

OK... so I got a ton of pictures of the Statue of Liberty, but I didn't want to delete any of them incase one of them didn't come out!!  Besides, it was my first time to ever see her!!

OK... you know that movie "Serendipity"?  Here's the golf club!!  Isn't that too cool!!

NBC Studios... Law and Order, baby, Law and Order!!

The World Trade Center Site.  The last picture above is the pavement where the WTC towers came up to... beyond the concrete barricade is a huge hole where the stuff in the second and third pictures above is located at Subway/Underground level.

Here are some of the signs on the fences surrounding the site.  There were also plaques with the names of the people who lost their lives, but I didn't get good pictures of that.

Here are some cool buildings that were across from the World Trade Center.

Times Square

The Naked Cowboy.  Apparently this guy makes $60,000 a year standing in the middle of the street in just his underwear playing his guitar.  One of the souvenir shops had underwear (y-fronts) for sale that had "The Naked Cowboy" written across the back of them.

I thought this was cool with the money market stuff going across the three screens.  I think this was a bank, but I'm not too sure.

The Hershey's store was AWESOME!!!  Here's Kelly and Sarah giving the Hershey's Kiss a kiss!!  This machine on the end was cool... that guy would fill up a little bucket with any kind of candy that you wanted... he would press some buttons and the candy would come down the shoot and fill up the bucket.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Of course I had to get a picture of the British Empire Building!!

Typical NYC site.  A bicycle without wheels.  LOL!

St. Patrick's Cathedral

We weren't allowed to go past the guards.  So we took pictures the best we could from the very back of the church.

Here's another really cool looking church.  I don't know the name of that one though.

The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).  I only took these pictures of the Van Gogh..

Here we are at the Museum of Natural History.  Now THIS was a COOL Museum!!

These tiny monkeys were too cute!! they are the size of hamsters!!

Here's some more pictures of us taking a little break!

This looked like just a great big pile of bones, so I had to get a closer look...

ok... this one looks like a moose to me... but the sign said it was a deer.  What do YOU think???

Pterodactyls

Look at this sea monster!!

Look at these massive sea turtles!!  Those shells were like 3 foot high and 5 foot long!!

I don't know WHAT this guy is... a cross between a frog and a gator, I guess!

Here we are in Central Park!

Isn't this cool!!  This was on the wall in the subway!

Here we are hanging out in the subway... waiting for the train to take us back to the hotel!  The pictures are very blurry... but... oh well!!

OK... I wanted to get a picture of the Cops on horses... and when I did... one of the horses decided to "do his business".  LOL!  The other horse is looking as if to say... "What are you DOing??? I'm gonna move!" LOL!

More Pictures of Times Square... and the Toys R Us store.  The Toys R Us was 3 stories inside.

Look how much it costs to park your car in NYC!!  That's ridiculous.

My poor attempt to get the Macy's sign as we drove past on our way out of NYC.

Good-Bye Lady Liberty!
